Year- round tourism in Virginia Beach? (15th Sep 06)

If there was all year round tourism in Virginia Beach, it would certainly help real estate and property rentals. Well, the officials of Virginia Beach apparently want just that, year-round tourism. The attraction in the summer time is the weather and the beach front in my view, with the wintery rains and cold surely not attractive in my view. But....

Boardwalk in Virginia BeachCity officials nevertheless, are said to be attempting to attract more out of season visitors by focusing on the things such as the city's new 200 million dollar convention center. They might also further develop the oceanfront. Virginia Beach officials say that this was not the best year for hotel occupancy and they do feel that trying to extend the season will help. Conferences and exhibitions will dramatically help it is believed.

Last spring, events such as the Redskins Beach Blitz attracted 5,000 people and brought in several million dollars. This type of conference is typical of what the officialis are loking for. More conference dollars. Further down the coast, Myrtle Beach, South Caralina, is building a 400 million dollar theme park and this immediately will compete with some of the tourists to Virginia.
